| Above, Woodie demonstrates his techniques, making a wooden bowl while an admiring crowd watches, at the annual Ludlow Castle Craft Fair. He enjoys demonstrating how he takes a rough timber and turns it into a bowl, a plate, an earring tree or even a clock. He is notorious as "the Mushroom Man", due to the popularity of his wooden "Mushies", and often wins prizes for quality and show entertainment. His presentations are both educational and extremely humorous as he keeps up a constant banter with his audience. His audiences are of all ages and walks of life, from an auditorium of school children to British Royalty. |

 To the right you see the Yewturn tent as it is seen at craft shows all over the UK. A sparkling clean white tent with its tables skirted with soft brown suede. Nature enhances this warm and inviting display with its leaves and green vines. Useful household items turned of British wood, as well as the original craftwork of Woodie and Effie Curtis, are artfully displayed for viewing and purchase. Flags fly above the demonstration area where Woodie turns a piece of tree or branch into something beautiful right before your eyes.

YewTurn, the main business, began around 1992. The name signifies their desire to make a U-Turn from using exotic woods in their products: they use only timbers that grow in the UK.
From the original business of creating beautiful wooden wares turned on the lathe, they have, as Woodie explains, "branched (excuse the pun) out" into several different areas.
Effie has added her "Heat Strokes" pyrography and the "Old as the Hills" line of slate engravings. Unique wooden veneer cards, slate clocks and coasters are her specialty.
